The beauty of an Everhot for Christmas entertaining

Christmas feasting is one of the best reasons for owning an Everhot heat storage range cooker. Warmth for the household (including the dogs!) during the winter months, and loads of cooking options for feeding the family. So what could you make when all the relatives, the neighbours, or your closest friends descend on you in the run up to Christmas? Here’s some of our favourite quick and easy entertaining ideas.

Mulled Wine

First, and perhaps most importantly, the drinks! The Everhot simmering oven (bottom oven, set to 90 degrees) is perfect for preparing Mulled Wine and then keeping it warm without having to worry about losing lots of oven space or leaving the simmer plate lid up. Our specialist range cooker chef, Steven, places a bottle of Shiraz red wine in a deep lidded saucepan that’s suitable for the oven (no plastic handles) together with one sliced orange, three cloves, three star anise, two sticks of cinnamon and one tbsp honey. Leave it in the simmering oven for 30 minutes to an hour and just bring out when ready to pour. It looks great to have fresh slices of orange to place in each glass as well.

Cooking in the Everhot Stove

If you’ve also invested in one of our Everhot Stoves, there’s a 20 litre oven inside which can be used as extra cooking or warming space during the festive period when we tend to have more people in the house. If you set the Stove to full temperature (by turning the temperature gauge all the way to the right) then the oven will reach 200 degrees inside. Set it half way, and you’ll be simmering around 100 degrees – good for keeping food warm or warming plates.

Our Christmas Biscuits recipe uses 140g icing sugar, 250g diced butter, 375g sieved plain flour, 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 egg yolk. Mix the ingredients together with your hands to form a dough texture. Roll out to approximately 7mm thickness and cut out shapes such as stars, snowflakes or Christmas trees. They’ll need somewhere between 10 and 12 minutes in the Stove at full temperature depending on how big they are – they cook quickly so keep checking. Once cooled you can decorate with water icing and sprinkles.

Canapes for pre-Christmas dinner, or just a festive party

The simmer plate of an Everhot is perfect for cooking canapes. Some of our owners like to cook directly on the simmer plate, others prefer to use Bake-O-Glide or Cook-A-Sheet underneath their food. Cook A Sheet is available to buy from our sister company, Everhot Essentials.

Asparagus and Parma Ham: for 350g of asparagus you will need 150g of sliced Parma ham. Prepare the asparagus and then wrap half a piece of Parma ham around the stalk. Oil the simmer plate slightly with a little vegetable oil on kitchen towel. Pop the wrapped asparagus onto the simmer plate and turn every two to three minutes until cooked to your liking.

Sharing Food

Popping some sharing food on the kitchen island is a lovely sociable way to entertain friends and family. We adore Everhot Ambassador, and Michelin-starred chef, Nigel Haworth’s Sharing Cheese Souffle for this reason. You’ll need 160g grated cheese, Coleman’s Mustard, 50g butter, 45g plain flour, 225g egg whites and some salt and milk – and a little more time for prep. Have a watch of the video below to talk you through how to do it. Then prepare some crudities or bread sticks for dipping into the Souffle.

Savoury Sausage Slice

Head to page 120 of your Everhot Cookbook to bake our Savoury Sausage Slice. We mixed 455g of butchers’ sausage meat, 2 dessert apples (peeled and diced), 115g grated Cheddar cheese, 2 tbsp chopped parsley, a red onion and yellow pepper sliced, and 60g of sun dried tomatoes together with one egg and wrapped it all inside ready-rolled puff pastry. Cut into small slices for guests to pick up and munch – we advise a few napkins too to help with the sticky fingers!
