How energy efficient is an Everhot?

The genius behind the design of our Everhot range cookers is the use of a trickle feed of electricity, originally inspired by the power generated from the water turbine at our headquarters, Coaley Mill.  An Everhot therefore uses a fraction of the electricity of comparable range cookers.

The true test of a heat storage cooker’s efficiency is its power consumption when it is left on 24 hours a day, with the ovens and the cast iron plates turned on and providing warmth to the room. It is important when comparing different range cooker manufacturers to ask what their running costs will be when operated as a heat storage cooker. Many of our competitors publish consumption data when running the ovens only, not the hot plate and simmer plates, which are often expressed as hourly figures. In order to make a direct comparison you’ll need to calculate the 24/7 leave-on costs of the hot plates and simmer plates on competitor models. In some cases this will double the published headline consumption figures of their models.

Whilst an Everhot heat storage range cooker is designed to remain switched on day and night, it has flexibility at the core of its design. Our Wi-Fi enabled controller gives you the option to control settings either on the cooker’s control panel or remotely via the app. The temperature of each cooking zone can be controlled individually, and we use the latest induction technology to offer year-round use. Our timed, fully programmable, ECO mode further enhances the efficiency and flexibility of the cooker.

Everhot consumption figures are based on our recommended temperature settings which your Everhot will be set to when it arrives. These are 220 degrees for the top oven, 100 degrees for the bottom oven, 290 degrees for the hot plate and 200 degrees for the simmer plate. Our ECO mode automatically drops the cooker into half temperatures overnight and saves around 20% of the power consumed by the cooker.

An Everhot consumes up to half the energy of comparable heat storage range cookers. The table below shows the weekly power consumption of each Everhot model using our factory set ECO timings between 9pm and 6am.

Follow the Sun 

Our ‘Follow the Sun’ setting allows you to automatically adjust your cooker’s ECO setting to coincide with sunrise and sunset to make the most of you solar integration. Within the Follow the Sun function, you can delay the heating of the cooker to maximise the use of your solar production which is especially helpful for homes with smaller solar arrays.

Smart Tariff Integration

Many “Smart” tariffs are arriving on the energy market now, with either cheaper overnight rates or rates that vary throughout the day. Select your energy tariff in the Everhot app and the cooker will automatically adjust your ECO schedule by up to two hours if doing so will be more cost efficient.

Grid Aware

Designed primarily for those owners who generate their own power and have a limited supply (e.g. wind, solar or hydro installations), but also for those customers who want to help the national grid cope in times of high demand, when it will temporarily stop energy being supplied if it senses a shortage of supply. In times of excess supply, there is also the option for the cooker to store more heat by automatically raising the temperature.

Turning Your Everhot Ovens Off

Whilst we wouldn’t recommend turning off your top oven for long periods of time, it is possible to turn each oven on and off individually and you can independently control the temperature of each oven and the hot plates of your Everhot. Perhaps you won’t need all the ovens on, or the hot plate, in warmer months or if you are going on holiday. This level of control is further enhanced by tailoring the ECO timings to suit your needs.

Setting Individual Eco Times and Oven Delays

An Everhot is so versatile that you can adjust the ECO mode timings on your cooker for each day of the week through the built-in control panel or the Everhot app. That way, if you need your cooker later in the day on the weekends, you can save some energy in the morning. Or if you want it to drop into ECO earlier in the evenings during the week because you tend to eat earlier, you can do so.

Should you typically not need your ovens until later in the day, you can use our unique Oven Delay Timers. Our factory settings use a three-hour delay for the top oven, and a four-hour delay for the bottom oven(s). The hot plates warm up at 6am in the morning, ready for tea and toast and the ovens are ready to cook by mid-morning. The delay timings can be adjusted to suit your lifestyle and the time of year. A great feature if you only use your ovens at lunchtime and for evening meals. This is particularly useful for people with renewables because you can spread the peak load whilst the cooker is warming up and reduce overall power consumption. Your Everhot control panel allows you to do this separately for each day of the week, and settings can also be adjusted remotely through our app.

Further energy consumption savings

With the current spike in energy costs many customers are looking for ways to further reduce their energy consumption. Here the flexibility an Everhot affords once again comes into its own.

We’ve set out below the approximate energy consumption of an Everhot using only the top oven and the hot plate. These savings apply to all of our cooker models, using our ECO mode overnight, and show how a three hour, six hour and nine hour top oven heat up delay translates into reduced power consumption.

The hot plate will be ready for tea and toast in the morning and remain hot all day in each scenario, with the oven ready when you need it. Should you need your second or third oven, they can heat up and be ready to use in around an hour at standard temperatures.
