What is an Everhot Cooker and how does it work?

Many Everhot owners find us after previously owning another brand of range cooker. They want to know what’s different about an Everhot Cooker, what makes it stand out, and why does their best friend love theirs so much! However, many of our owners are also buying a range cooker for the very first time. They’ve heard the hype and want to discover more about how a heat storage range cooker works. So, here’s our guide to buying an Everhot.

So…what is an Everhot Cooker?

An Everhot is an electric heat storage range cooker. One of the biggest differences between this and your average electric oven is that a range cooker is designed and built to stay on all the time, up to temperature, ready to cook whenever you need it.

The ‘heat storage’ part of the name refers to the fact that the cooker is well insulated and retains its constant heat. That means it’s great for adding warmth to your kitchen. The ‘range’ part of the cooker name means that it has a ‘range’ of options for cooking. Whereas an electric oven is just that – an oven. A range cooker features multiple ovens set at different temperatures as well as solid top hot plates. This means it works not just as a cooker but also boils a kettle, makes toast, and allows you to dry washing and warm clothes. It also keeps your kitchen comfortably toasty.

Depending on its size, an Everhot Cooker will have at least two ovens, one of which houses a powerful grill, as well as a boiling and simmer plate on top. With many of our cookers, you can then choose whether to also have an induction hob under one lid, or a more traditional set up with cast iron hot plates under both lids. The configuration depends on the model of Everhot you choose – our biggest Everhot has four ovens, two grills, double boiling and simmer plates and an induction hob.

How should you run an Everhot?

The idea is that you run an Everhot with the top oven hot enough for roasting and the second, bottom oven at a lower temperature for baking – or even lower for slow cooking. If you choose to have a third oven then you can have one oven for roasting, one for baking and one for slow cooking. If you have a fourth oven then this is typically a plate warming oven. However, what’s so beneficial about an Everhot is that you can easily and quickly change the temperatures of your ovens and hot plates. Top ovens can reach up to 250 degrees and bottom ovens can either reach 180 or 200 degrees depending on the model. Giving you the flexibility to cook at the temperatures you choose rather than working with fixed temperature ovens.

Our boiling plates are designed to run at a hot enough temperature to boil water in a saucepan or a kettle, and the simmer plate does just that – keeps things simmering. On most of our models the two plates are placed next to each other to enable you to move pots and pans back and forth between them.

There is no typical way to run your Everhot, its versatility means that it can fit into your family lifestyle or working timetable.

What are Everhots made out of?

An Everhot is built using a mixture of cast-iron and steel. We’ve had over 45 years of innovation and refinement to make sure we’re using the right material to maximise efficiency, flexibility and most importantly to provide the best possible cooking environment.

Everhots are very well insulated, making them incredibly energy efficient. The warmth in your kitchen predominantly comes through the stainless-steel lids of the hot plates and the front of the cooker. This provides heat to the room without making installation problematic. There is no need for large clearances or a fireproof hearth when installing an Everhot.

Each oven has its own heating element which is placed at the bottom of the oven. This is why the lower down you place something in your oven the crispier it will cook! This is great for roast potatoes and for baking quiches and pies without having to blind bake the pastry first. There are no glass doors on an Everhot but should you want to check on your cooking, you won’t lose a lot of heat if you open the oven doors to check dinner.

Equally the ovens do not lose temperature when you lift the lids on the hot plates, so you can roast, bake, and boil all at the same time without problems. There are no fans inside an Everhot oven. Instead the heat radiates around the inside of the oven, cooking everything more evenly without drying out the food. For this reason you can reduce the amount of stock in your stews and casseroles as the liquid isn’t driven off by a fan.

How does an Everhot work?

An Everhot is unique in that it runs off a 13amp power supply and needs no dedicated electrics or heavy cables, flue, or annual servicing. Such a simple installation means you have a lot of flexibility as to where you can place an Everhot – it can even sit within a kitchen island as it just plugs in!

The 13amp power supply is thanks to what we call a ‘trickle feed’ design. Each heating element is thermostatically controlled allowing precise temperatures. Each cooking zone will top up when needed using only a trickle of electricity throughout the day.

If you own an Everhot 60, 120+ or 150+ your cooker will have an external Control Box which can be placed on the worktop or inside a kitchen cupboard. For all other models, it will be hidden behind a door on the front of the cooker. This control box allows you to turn ovens off and on, change your oven and hot plate temperatures, set your ECO times, and delay your ovens heating up. This gives you incredible control over your Everhot dependent on your cooking preferences. With so much control you won’t need any other form of cooking in the kitchen, even in the summer.

What is Everhot’s ECO mode?

We have designed an Everhot to automatically reduce its oven and hot plate temperatures overnight. This will save you around 20% in running costs verses leaving the cooker on full power 24/7. It is also enjoyed by many owners who don’t need to keep their kitchens as warm during the night as they do during the day. When your Everhot arrives it will be set to this automation – which drops the cooker to half the temperature between 9pm and 6am. It takes around twenty minutes for the hot plates to reach full temperature from the ECO setting and forty minutes for the ovens to be ready to cook.

Again, what is unique about an Everhot is the control you have over this scenario. You can amend the time your cooker comes out of ECO mode in the morning and the time it goes into ECO mode in the evening. You can also simply turn ECO off completely should you want to keep the cooker at temperature 24/7 and equally you can put it into ECO mode constantly, for example if you are going away for the weekend or on holiday.

Can you turn an Everhot off?

We don’t advise turning your Everhot off completely. However, you can turn the bottom ovens off and the hot plates down in the summer to reduce the amount of heat coming into the kitchen. You can also reduce your top oven down to a minimum of 50 degrees without the need to oil the top oven or hot plate. If you need an oven to heat up quickly from ECO because you need it sooner than you realised, you can use the grill or the Boost function to warm it more quickly. An Everhot is primarily built as a heat storage range cooker and therefore is designed to be left on 24/7.

What is an induction hob?

You can choose to have an induction hob alongside the hot and simmer plates on many of our Everhot models. Induction is a quick and safe way to cook and perfect for people who want to turn their hot plates down in the summer months. The hob itself is glass, underneath which is a copper wire induction coil. If you use an induction-friendly magnetic pan on the hob, it will heat up. If you use a non-friendly one (like aluminium) then it won’t.

Our induction hobs have some incredibly special features. Firstly, you can join two induction plates together in order to use bigger pans. Secondly, there’s a timer and pause function, and lastly there are three quick press settings – one for tempering chocolate, one for warming dairy without boiling, and one set at the perfect simmering temperature.

Quick Everhot questions:

Here are some of the other quick questions we are often asked:

Can you turn an Everhot + model into an i model?

Due to the way in which the two models are built, it isn’t possible to turn a + model into an i model. We sell many more induction models than + models because of the flexibility of induction.

Can I take my Everhot with me if I move?

Absolutely! You can find out more about relocating your Everhot here.

Can I change the colour of my Everhot in the future?

Unfortunately not. We know how difficult it can be to make this decision and therefore don’t ask you for your colour choice when you first order your Everhot. We will need it six weeks before delivery though. You can see lots of inspiring photography here to help you make your decision.

What help do I get to programme my Everhot?

When your Everhot cooker arrives, we give you information that will take you through all of the controls and settings. Should you have any questions after this, our head office is open Monday to Friday office hours and we are happy to talk you through anything. We also have instructional videos on our YouTube channel.
